Educator/Choreographer/Artistic Director (LaneCoArts)
As a third-generation summer native of Chatham and deeply invested in the community Lane Gifford developed a keen love for the town over the years. As a child she experienced a range of activities during the summer days but realized as an adult years later, that she would have relished more creative art oriented activities, had they been available. In 2012 she decided to pursue a dream and start her own summer arts program for children. SummerSPLASH! has grown steadily ever since, providing enriching experiences for many new and returning children from the town of Chatham, neighboring communities and from far and wide such as California, New York, Texas, Italy and France. It is a program for children in the performing and visual arts. Held at the wonderful Chatham Community Center, which provides a warm and welcoming space for the range of activities that comprise the program, the focus is on fostering the creative voice in every child. Children explore their imagination and develop a sense of camaraderie and confidence. This is an arts adventure where children learn to think expansively and to express their own true individual voices. Children dive into vibrant new experiences and have fun.
Lane Gifford is artistic director of LaneCoArts, a multi-arts dance theater company based in New York City, with a mission to combine dance with such elements as words, drama, sculptural components and rigorous physical investigations.
Teaching is Lane’s first love and she has taught in a number of schools and summer programs for children. She has had the pleasure of working at such schools as The School at Columbia University (New York, NY), The Buckley School (New York, NY), Fieldston School (New York, NY), The JCC in Manhattan, Greenwich Academy (Greenwich CT), Eagle Hill School (Greenwich CT) and Kentucky Country Day School (Louisville KY). She has worked as a Wingspan teaching artist and taught in after school programs throughout New York City, Brooklyn, and Queens.
